Name : Acuri
Resident : Brazil
Instruments : Band, Composers, Producers

Created around 2003 in Rio de Janeiro, Acuri came to life with the intent to produce instrumental music that was essentially Brazilian, but filtered by a
acuri

creative vision free of stylistic frontiers, capable of compassing in a single musical concept our country’s folk music along with the most modern manifestations of contemporary musical production.

From the beginning, Acuri’s pieces resulted in complex (but intuitive) compositions and arrangements, featuring a wide range of sonorities and textures, at the same time with strong national character and great universal vocation. In search for a personal language and greater versatility within the arrangements, the initial trio gradually added new members, and after some line-up changes, it got to the present quintet configuration.

The instrumentation consists on flute, saxes, piano, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, melodica, accordion, cavaquinho and lots of percussion instruments, with the musicians taking turns on different instruments to create unusual combinations. Following the path opened by great masters of Brazilian music like Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Radamés Gnatalli, and emerging talents from the fertile brazilian scene like Trio Curupira and Itiberê Orquestra Família.

Acuri has been playing since 2004 in the most important instrumental music venues in Brazil and throughout the university circuit (where many of the fans come from), stabilishing itself as one of the most exciting groups in the South American instrumental scene.

In 2005, the group got the firt place prize on Trama Virtual music contest, winning over more than 3000 artists. In 2006, it was one of the winners of the BdeBanda Festival, promoted by Jornal do Brasil, with huge popular voting. In 2007, the group won the Tapias Festival of Integrated Arts, promoted by Caixa Econômica Federal.
