Dee Brown’s New Album A little Elbowroom After years of absorbing his father’s love and knowledge of jazz, Demitris Brown better known as dee, re-paid George (Sonny) Brown one more time with the new release of the CD titled “A Little Elbowroom”.

The elder Brown passed away May 2, 2009, and dee’s new recording pays tribute to the man who was responsible for his emergence into the music theatre. Read More

While growing up in Detroit MI, Brown, the youngest of three children, was exposed to the recordings of his fatherís favorite artists: Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Charles Mingus, Les McCann, Cannonball Adderly, West Montgomery, Charles Christian and George Benson. Known to most as Sonny, dee’s father would enlighten his son of how significant these legendary musicians were in the scope of jazz history.

“We would talk for hours about the greats in jazz,” explained dee. “He was also my biggest critic. I would bring over new songs as we were working on them, and we would sit down outside and listen to them. During the recording of 'A Little Elbowroom', I had pre-mixed three new songs.

As he laid in the bed, he said “I like them all, but that second song, that’s your hit.” “At the time, I had no name for that track. I decided later to pay my respect to my dad and named it after his nickname, Sonny.”

Eventually, dee dedicated the entire project to his father. “If it wasnít for him introducing me to jazz, I would have never found my true love and passion,” said dee. “On this CD I want to really show my love for my instrument the guitar. Many of the tracks will feature a lot of guitar work along with the sax.”

Also appearing on “A Little Elbowroom” are saxophonists Dezie McCullers Jr. Darren Rahn, Trumpeter Frank McCullers, producer, writer Valdez Brantley, Chip Dixson, Nate Rarasim, bassist Dave Henderson, Kern Brantley, vocalists Gerard Brooks and Dee D’mitri.

Brown is seen as one of the most promising new artist to come!
