He began studying music in the age of six and had as major influences the choro and the samba styles.
In 1995 Rogério has moved to Brasília and became a “member” of “Clube do Choro de Brasília”, an institution dedicated to strenghten and preserve the “choro” which features the best brazilian instrumentists with whom Rogério has played several times.
Among them Sivuca, Armandinho Macedo, Hermeto Pascoal, Pepeu Gomes, Yamandú Costa, Altamiro Carrilho, Carlos Poyares, Zé da Velha e Silvério Pontes, Paulo Sérgio Santos, Humberto Araújo, Maurício Carrilho, Proveta, Hamilton de Holanda, Daniel Santiago, Gabriel Grossi, and Elton Medeiros, Lecy Brandão, Noca da Portela, Walter Alfaite, Claudio Jorge, Nelson Rufino, Nelson Sargento, Monarco, Wilson Moreira, Dorina, Mauro Diniz, at Feitiço Mineiro, another important spot in the brazilian music scene.
Rogério has lectured at “The Brazilian Choro School Raphael Rabello” and at “The Music School of Brasília”.
He was part of the group “Dois de Ouro” from 1998 to 2002 and recorded three albuns: “A Nova Cara do Velho Choro”( “The new face of the old choro”), “Prêmio Visa” e “Dois de Ouro”. With the mandolinist Hamilton de Holanda, Rogério has played at “1º Prêmio Visa” (“The First Visa Festival”), in 1998 and was also part of the “Bandolins em Jacob” (“Mandolins in Jacob”) project, in 1999, in Rio de Janeiro, “The 9th Annual Arts Alive International Festival” in Johannesburg, South Africa, september 2000 and also the “Free Jazz Festival” which has took place in Rio de Janeiro and on october 2000.
Together with Hamilton de Holanda (mandolin), Daniel Santiago (six string guitar) and himself (seven string guitar), Rogério has formed the “Brasília Brasil Trio”, and has recorded the album “Abre Alas” through record company Caravelas, in the year of 2001. They have also participated in the “Banco do Brasil Cultural Project”, performing in several brazilian states and touring in Paris, Nice and Córsega, on July, 2003.
In 2001 Rogério Caetano has won the first prize on the “Festival de Choro do Rio de Janeiro” with Jorge Cardoso (mandolin) and Valerinho (tamborin) and has played with the great brazilian singer Leila Pinheiro on her tour “Mais Coisas do Brasil”( More of Brazil).
In the next year, Rogério was part of the Raphael Rabello Tribute, at the Clara Nunes Theater with Amélia Rabello (Raphael`s sisters).
In 2003 he has played with Ney Matogrosso on the tour “Ney interpreta Cartola”(Ney sings Cartola).
In 2004 Rogério was part of the official brazilian carnival in Rio de Janeiro, playing with the samba school Portela. Also in 2004, he got his bachelor degree in composition at the Universidade de Brasilia (Federal University of Brasilia) and has moved to Rio where he`s being working with some of the greatest brazilian artists such as, Leandro Braga, Armandinho Macedo, Os Suburbanistas (Luis Carlos da Vila, Dorina e Mauro Diniz) e Monarco da Portela.
Rogério was chose to be part of the dvd project “Violões do Brasil” (Brazilian Guitar), to gether with some of the best guitar players in Brazil, and has recorded two tracks as main solist. The dvd was released in 2005.
Rogério Caetano has recorded his solo album in 2004 with his own compositions entitled: “Pintando o Sete”, with very special guests.
During his professional life Rogério has recorded with Zeca Pagodinho, Yamandú Costa, Afonso Machado, Gabriel Grossi, Leandro Braga, Hamilton de Holanda, Claúdio Jorge, Samba-Choro Group, and at albuns about Antônio Callado and Zé de Elias, of Acari Records.
