The music is precise, yet has an amazing spontaneity that brings it to life. And the sound is such that it is hard to believe that one guy, rather than a group of talented studio musicians created this. He goes on to say that he was instantly reminded of a time when he had the pleasure of hearing one of his favorite professional groups perform and stated that Tim puts the same electricity in the air and the same thoughtful, professional delivery behind what he’s doing. In short, Tim gives the listener fantastic albums that are real gems.
Born July 14, 1953 to a very devout Christian family in a small town in Mississippi, Tim started at the age of nine taking organ lessons. However, after about six months, Tim’s organ teacher requested a meeting with his parents to discuss her concerns with this new student. She notified his parents that he was playing the music the way he heard it and not how the music was written. It was at this time he knew he played by ear. He continued to play for his own enjoyment through his teens and early twenties and played in a few local bands.
During his mid-teens, his father opened a piano and organ store in his home town and Tim took an interest in the tuning and repairs of pianos. Tim became a full time piano tuner / technician by the age of nineteen. Since the piano tuning business was such a success, Tim strayed away from pursuing a career as a musician. After leaving his home town and searching for more knowledge in the piano repair industry, Tim relocated to Northern Virginia and worked for most of the major piano dealers as a salesman and tuner. It was during this time that he was introduced to digital pianos. He became intrigued by the technology of these instruments and what they had to offer. Not just plain ole’ piano, but much, much more. How exciting, he thought!
Twenty-two years later, Tim and his wife relocated to North Carolina, for a less stressful, higher quality lifestyle. He went to work for a local piano dealer who sold digital pianos. How about that! While Tim was going through the orientation of the new digital pianos, he discovered how easy it was to play them. One day he sat down and began playing a tune that was in his head and put all of the backgrounds with it and then recorded it. “Wow”, said one of his coworkers. You sound like a professional. He said, “Why don’t you make an album?” The owner of the music store allowed him to use the instruments to make his recordings. Another tuner who worked at the store with Tim, had a recording studio in his home and mastered the albums for him. After copywriting, Tim contracted with cdbaby.com to market his music.
Tim said that he had no idea it would go this far and has turned down several gigs. He only wants people to enjoy listening to his CD’s. He says at his age, gigging is a thing of the past. Let the young people have all the fun. Tim has three albums, and are available to purchase at cdbaby.com. His only two smooth jazz albums are Digital Horizons and Calm Within The Storms of Life.
