He started playing with a hard rock band in 1994 and had huge success with the local scene and some recognition in Eastern European countries. He also performed as a sideman with local artists and managed to build a reputation in the rock and the jazz scene as well.
As an ambitious and motivated artist, he always strives to reach a higher level and therefore collaborated with EL Productions to start work on his own original smooth jazz project. Knowing that the smooth jazz scene is much more developed in Canada and America, Udi moved to Vancouver.
Udi began working with Horizon Management in New York from 2003-2005 and began playing various shows in Canada. A short time later, Quinn record label in St. Louis showed interest in releasing Udi’s music. Unfortunately, Quinn was not the right “home” for Udi’s music.
Udi relocated to New York and found that audiences truly appreciated his compositions and playing style. He quickly began a heavy performance schedule as a sideman with several artists in clubs while continuing to work on his first solo smooth jazz project. You can hear Udi's single "As simple as that" on the top radio stations throughout the US , promoted by ASL Music Media.
Review of the single release ' As Simple As That ' by Wes Gillespie - JazzNet247.com
Taken from his debut Smooth Jazz CD ' Smooth Jazz Tales ', Udi Levy releases the single ' As Simple As That ' which is an up tempo cut reminiscent of a playing synergy between George Benson and Lee Ritenour. The instrumentation combination of organ, electric piano, tight rhythm section and sax all compliment the mesmerising dexterity of Levy's guitar virtuosity.
The melody interplay between the guitar and keyboards is water tight and the track is a feast of innovative runs and licks which was synonymous with the aforementioned guitar greats from their ' In Flight ' and ' Harlequin ' sets, yet Levy brings a very 21st century contemporary feel to it, not only with the choice of instrumentation on the track but with the superb arrangement.
When so many Smooth Jazz tracks nowadays fall into a monolithic blend of predicability, ' As Simple As That ' awakens the listener with this fresh, driving cut which is vibrant, melodic and just perfect for your in-car entertainment. This is an oustanding Smooth Jazz debut from this accomplished and seasoned guitarist.
